BAC is excited to announce its first “PAINT & SIP WITH A PURPOSE” fundraiser to raise money for translators assisting in teacher training workshops to be held in Myanmar through Spring/Summer 2019. Workshops will be held in Yangon, Kyaik-Ma-Yaw, and Thaton.
Why Your Support is Important
After six decades of neglect from the previous military government, Myanmar’s education sector suffers from woefully inadequate resources, ineffective policy and regulation, teachers who are grossly under trained and underpaid, and students poorly qualified to lead the nation. A key factor to Myanmar’s socio-economic development and drive towards modernization depends upon an educated and skilled population supported by its government.
Professional training workshops offer Myanmar teachers a space to develop meaningful skills that will enhance their classroom effectiveness. Trainees have the opportunity to 1) Interact with international colleagues, 2) Discuss, practice, and generate different classroom strategies, 3) Contribute to the critical dialogue on education development across the country.
Who You will Be Supporting
Translators play an integral role in these workshops as they bridge the gap between U.S. instructors and Myanmar teacher trainees. Their insights into the nuanced idiosyncrasies of Myanmar culture are vital to workshop successes. Each professional training workshop requires between 2-6 translators and stipends will be distributed upon completion of the programs.
Meet the Artist - During our “Paint & Sip” event you will be guided by BAC Creative Director, Sue Tun. Sue will lead you through an abstract painting of a traditional Burmese dancer using acrylics on bristol board which can be easily framed like any other modern art print. Light snacks and the first glass of wine is included. Please arrive early if you’d like to sit with your group. Seats are first come, first serve!
